HPE Announces Top-Down Reorganization

In a move that includes multiple executive departures and reassignments, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is restructuring to accelerate its hybrid cloud sales offensive. CEO Antonio Neri announced the reorganization details in a public blog released today.

New Hybrid Cloud Business Unit

HPE is introducing a new Hybrid Cloud business unit, which will operate under HPE Chief Technology Officer Fidelma Russo. The new organization will combine the HPE GreenLake platform with HPE Storage, HPE GreenLake Cloud Services Solutions, and the existing Office of the CTO organization. The primary objective of this group is to expedite HPE’s hybrid cloud strategy by offering a unified portfolio encompassing storage, software, data, and cloud services through the HPE GreenLake platform.

Tom Black, reporting to Russo, will take on the role of leading the newly established Private Cloud team. Tom most recently led HPE’s Storage business group through a transformation into a data services-focused entity. During this period, Black oversaw the introduction of HPE’s Alletra portfolio and its initial storage-as-a-service offerings.

Other Organizational Changes

Pradeep Kumar, currently head of HPE Services, will retire from HPE. The company will consolidate HPE Services, Supply Chain, and Quote-to-Cash into its Global Operations organization led by Mark Bakker.

Analysis

HPE is different from the company it was when Antonio Neri took the reins in 2018. Under his stewardship, HPE has successfully pivoted from a product-centric company to one providing full-stack solutions under its HPE GreenLake brand. The company is seeing strong momentum.

It makes sense that as HPE looks towards the continuing evolution of GreenLake, the underlying organization would also evolve. Fidelma Russo and Tom Black are strong leaders whose execution has been vital to HPE’s continuing success. They will do well in their new positions.

We look forward to watching the new organization operate.
